Pediatric dentistry is an
age-defined specialty that
provides comprehensive
preventive and therapeutic
oral health care for infants
and children through
adolescence, including
those with special
healthcare needs. To
become a pediatric dental
specialist, a dentist must
complete a minimum of 24

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that a child drink no more than four ounces of juice a day.
Discuss the use of fluoride toothpaste/fluoride supplements for your child with your dentist.
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry does not promote the use of prenatal fluoride supplementation.
You should brush your child's teeth for them until they are at least seven years old. We recommend brushing your teeth at least two times a day!

Accreditation of the American Dental Association. The American Dental
Association and American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend
that children have their first dental visit by their first birthday. With
regular check-ups and guidance, any potential problems can be
addressed at the earliest stage, thereby avoiding pain, infection and
extensive procedures later.
You should begin flossing your child's teeth
as soon as two teeth are touching. We
recommend flossing once a day.
Young children generally do better with
morning appointments, as they are more
rested and more cooperative. Mornings are
also less likely to interfere with nap times and
meals.
Mouth guards protect your lips,
cheeks, tongue and teeth. They also
help prevent injuries to the head,
such as concussions and jaw
fractures. Please provide your child
with a mouth guard if they are
involved in sports.
If a tooth is knocked out, rinse off the
root with water (DON'T touch the root
with your fingers). Put the tooth back
in the socket and bite on a
cloth/napkin and call your dentist
immediately. If unable to replant the
tooth, put it in milk and call your
dentist immediately.
